Joe Booe and The Dog is the brainchild of singer songwriter Joe Booe and musician/sculptor Tim Curtis. The music is an eclectic mix of hard rock, blues, funk, electronica, and metal. Booe and Curtis have been writing and recording together for nearly 30 years, starting with the single Wild Eyes, from their debut, 12 song album Set Free the Animal. With the writing of material spanning 3 decades, the songs are a tapestry of varied musical influence and development, allowing for multiple styles to be incorporated in the project. While both members of the band live in Florida, Booe is in Sarasota Florida, and Curtis is in Key West, forcing it to remain a recording project only for the time being. Tim Curtis performs much of the bands material with his band, Super Secret Weapon, throughout the Florida Keys.
Joe Booe and The Dog is a collaborative effort, featuring a great number of musicians from around the country, including the late Armin Herrera and Scott Bond on guitars, Pete Bartolomei, and Gordon Rinda on drums, Jim Davidge on bass, and most recently drummer Gregg Schanle, whose has joined the band for much of the second album.
Joe Booe has a long pro music history, having sung for national acts for nearly 4 decades. Some of the more notable are the bands Reign of Fire, 7 Months and StrictNine. He recorded and released the self-titled EP and full-length “Theories and Principles” album with StrictNine, the debut self-titled album of “7 Months” with 7 Months, as well as the “Timeless” album with The Michael Ray Band. And aside from Joe Booe and The Dog, he is currently the frontman for the meteoric progressive/hard rock/metal band Reign of Fire.
Tim Curtis has always been an artist of some form. Having studied at the Art Institute in Chicago and under master sculptors in Italy, he has been a working sculptor for nearly 40 years. Music has always been his other artistic outlet. Curtis had released 2 albums with his band Captain Pyrite, the 1996 release of “The Legends of Captain Pyrite” and the follow up album “The Revenge of Captain Pyrite”. A Key West resident for some 25 years, Curtis has long performed there, and continued to write and record.
Joe Booe and The Dog are nearly finished with their follow up album, expecting to release it early next year. The album is expected to include 12 songs, and as much style variation as was present on the debut album. Drummer Gregg Schanle will provide chops on many of the songs and should be a permanent member of the band moving forward. JBATD can be found on all streaming services, YouTube, Facebook and X.
